Call for Tellers
TALES OF FIRE & FROST—STORIES FROM THE WINTER HEARTH
Patchwork invites local and regional storytellers, from novice to professional, to share their time and talents at Tales of Fire and Frost—Stories from the Winter Hearth on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at The Ice House in Bethlehem, PA.
We welcome all kinds of stories—whether oral traditions, personal narratives, poetry, spoken word, or even song and dance—that reflect the themes of fire and frost.
Think: passionate tales of lost love, chilling ghost stories, frosty challenges, heroic adventures, and all-too-relatable foibles.
Whether it’s a tale of enflamed hearts and lost loves or chilling ghosts and stoic simpletons, this event is an invitation to tell a tale that you love in a way that you love to tell it. From the subtly sublime to the dangerously dramatic flair, this is your opportunity to tell your story, in your own unique way.
Tell us your tale!
APPLICATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 4 @ 11:59 PM
A midwinter folk festival event for the caroler, dancer, reveler and Yuletide-lover. Hosted by The Chivalrous Crickets and radio host Rick Weaver – a community celebration for all ages featuring Celtic music, folk dancing, caroling, masking & mumming, games, hors d’oeuvres, storytelling, face-decorating, a beautiful light ceremony, and an ancient riddling contest with a bedecked horse skull… Discover the weird and wonderful traditions of the ancient holiday called Twelfth Night!
Join us to bid farewell to Really Free: The Radical Art of Nellie Mae Rowe before it heads to the California African American Museum, the next stop on its national tour! We’ll celebrate the culmination of LUAG’s Mobile ArtLab multi-week collaborative community project inspired by Rowe’s colorful and vibrant work. Dozens of community members contributed to the celebratory art installation that will decorate a portion of LUAG’s Upper Gallery, so be sure to come and see it for yourself!
Then take some time to explore the exhibition, participate in hands-on artmaking activities with local teaching artists Rei Ukon ’21 and Rebecca Kelly, sing along with the Lehigh Valley Queer Quoir, enjoy locally-made baked goods by From Lino, and listen to the soothing sounds of contemporary cellist Dan Kassel. This free, drop-in event is for all ages. All are welcome, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you.
Read more about LUAG’s Mobile ArtLab Series here.
An ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter will be in attendance and available as a floating interpreter for the duration of the reception.
Support for this program is provided by a grant from Art Bridges, Inc.
