Greenway ArtsWalk | Now – September 2021

Have you visited the South Bethlehem Greenway lately? You’ll notice a big change – ten double-sided large easels showcasing art work, stretching from New Street to the Wind Creek Casino. It’s the new Greenway ArtsWalk, and the exhibition on display could’nt be more-timely. In partnership with the Lehigh University Art Galleries, this exhibition is an extension of their latest exhibit Doing Democracy: Photography from the George Stephanopoulos Collection. The ArtsWalk features 20 photographs that shine a light on significant events of the 20th century to the present— featuring world leaders, the media, politicians, civil rights movements, and everyday Americans. Coinciding with the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election, the exhibition is a great way to dive deeper into America’s story, all while enjoying the outdoors and exercising.

The 1.7 linear mile path of the Greenway ArtsWalk, starts at 306 S. New Street to the Wind Creek Casino and showcases 20 enlarged images and a complimentary audio guide, so be sure to bring your ear buds! We encourage residents of Bethlehem and the Lehigh Valley to visit the Lehigh University Art Galleries to explore the full exhibit, as well as walk the Greenway, and participate in community programs. It’s our hope this exhibit will empower local civic duty, and start healthy conversations to encourage positive activism.

Urban Arts Trail

Each year, the SouthSide Arts District works tirelessly to create opportunities for local artists to transform our streetscape into their canvas. Over the last four years the SouthSide Arts District has added the following works to Third and Fourth Streets:

  • Artistic Designed Flower Pots
  • Downtown Murals
  • Artistic Designed Bike Racks
  • Public Piano

These pieces make up a 2.75 mile path throughout our Downtown known as the Urban Arts Trail. Visitors can go online at https://southsideartsdistrict.com/urban-arts-trail/ and follow the trail at home, or physically walk the path while viewing and learning about each art work. Artists from across the world and right here in the Lehigh Valley have made the SouthSide their canvas, and we are thrilled to create this Urban Trail for visitors and residents to enjoy all year long!
